iPartition

Here's a great little utility for managing your disk partitions, even Boot Camp partitions. If you're doing a lot of work with Phantom cameras, you most likely have a Windows partition on one of your Macintosh computers. iPartition allows you to quickly and easily resize any or all partitions on your system disk without disrupting data or operating system(s). It can really save you a lot of time if you're managing a complicated partition scheme on any of your systems.

It's a nice interface and I love the 3 Wheel controls and the ability to shape an actual curve. As of now, the video signal does some very weird things when interfacing with this software and there aren't any menus or advanced functionality for troubleshooting. I feel like there's a lot missing in this current build. 

But - what happens looks so awesomely psychedelic, I could stare at it for hours!

I'm looking forward to trying LiveGrade out once it's a little further along. The software seems to emphasize its use for creating looks to be loaded into the Alexa which is interesting because I don't know anyone working with the camera this way. I've experimented with doing this in the Arri Look Creator and really haven't found a practical application for it. LiveGrade also exports some kind of mystery LUT - Dimensions? Format? Not sure.

LATEST VERSION of LiveGrade has fixed the pyschedelic colorspace issue. Video sent through a LiveGrade enabled HDLink Pro responds correctly according to adjustment. However the exported 3D LUT's are inverted when loaded into Resolve and other LUT application software. When a colorspace is inverted usually red, brown, and skintones become blue and blue becomes reddish brown.

Pomfort has been incredibly responsive regarding improvements and are working fast with beta testers to add desired functionality and offer more information into how the software works.

A "Resolve LUT" export option has been added to the Beta Version. Will test when I'm back in NY later this month.

I caught an advance screening of Wim Wender's new 3D documentary, Pina, at IFC and was really impressed. I've been waiting for someone to make a film like this - an art film essentially - that embraces the enormous creative potential of 3D and uses it to create a utterly unique viewer experience and not just a gimmick to fill seats. It's equal parts documentary and performance piece with a little magical realism thrown in for effect. As a film, it succeeds in illustrating Pina Bausch's character through her art - modern dance. I'm no dance connoisseur by any means but I found how she used to movement to evoke such powerful emotions in both her performers and her audience to be extremely inspiring. As for 3D, this is a great film with or without it but Wenders used it in such a way as to make you feel like a participant in the dance. If you were to see a performance like this live, you would most likely see it in a theater - from the front perspective only and far enough away so as not to perceive the depth of the scene but to see the whole thing happen from one flat, fixed point of view. But in this film, the performances were photographed stereoscopically with a dynamically moving camera getting very close to the action and tracking around it. It really has an immersive effect, because you can resolve the roundness of the dancers and their spatial relationship to one another. It's like you're standing right there with them. 

General release happens 12/23/11 so if you've been dying to see a real 3D "art film" this might satisfy you.
